The kids constructed and decorated gingerbread houses yesterday.  Every time we do this, it reminds me of the year Jennifer and Nonnie made one from scratch.  PaPa ended up nailing it together--with real nails.

T.S. started the month with a trip to The Grand to see Santa. He was a shepherd in our church Christmas Pageant. He saw Santa again at church. Sadie unwillngly saw Santa at church--hope she doesn't get coal. Our pageant was complete with sheep.  All of the kids get to pick what part they'll be in the program, then they come up with their costumes.

Sadie finished her science project--they were to build a model of something that couldn't fit into the classroom.  She chose a hot air balloon.  The paper-mache portion took longer than expected, but she finally finished it, and we thought it turned out quite well.  (I think the passenger is a great finishing touch!)

T.S. graduated from Kindergarten Friday. The theme was "Top Hats and Tiaras." The girls sang "Diamonds are a Girls' Best Friend" and wore gloves, boas, tiaras and large "diamond" rings. Today we ran the individual events at the elementary track meet. Our team, Bow's Blasters, started the day with stretching. The other pictures are of Sadie and T.S. at the starting line for the 50yd dash. Both of the kids ran really hard today and we were super proud of them. Sadie played Little Dribblers basketball again this year. Her team--the 3rd and 4th grade--Happy Black was undefeated in the regular season and in the tournament. Everyone on the team improved so much throughout the season. Thanks Joli and Jimmy for an outstanding job of coaching!

Our school participates in a program called, "Skate Time." The kids pay a small fee, and a company brings all of the equipment needed to skate. They skate for two weeks. I didn't get pictures of Sadie this year, but I did skate with them. T.S. was quite a skater. He worked very hard to put all of his gear on by himself and even helped a few of his classmates.

We started back to school on Monday. Sadie had her fiddle lesson and her first little dribblers practice. We gave the kids marshmallow guns for Christmas--they shoot mini-marshmallows. T.S. was also the recipient of a Nerf gun. Robby gets to shoot it when they have their battles. The last few mornings of '09 were epic battles. T.S. has perfected the art of falling/being injured when the Nerf bullets hit him. Our house is littered with the aftermath--smushed marshmallows.

On Thursday we woke up to a little bit of snow and a whole lot of wind. We were on the edge of the "blizzard." Sadie and T.S. participated in our school's punt, pass and kick contest Thursday. Both of them did very well. I think Sadie impressed a few of the boys in her class. Sadie started fiddle lessons this week. A man from Tulia is coming to Happy on Mondays--which is very convenient. Sadie has been asking to learn the fiddle for over a year now. She is very excited. Lynnlea came to visit today. The kids argued over who got to feed her. Sadie fed the first bottle; T.S. got the second one (he refused photos today--I know you are all shocked). We enjoyed time with our littlest cousin--she is a very content baby (unless she is wet or hungry, so she's pretty much like all of us).

A friend of Sadie's passed down her roller blades. Sadie was thrilled, hers had worn out and were too little. T.S. wanted to join the fun, so he chose to spend his own money on roller skates. He has been practicing in the house before he heads out to our black top.

We had so much fun on our trip to Ruidoso. The kids enjoyed playing with the cousins their age, I enjoyed playing with the cousins my age, we all enjoyed our aunts and uncles and we were thrilled that GeGe even came! It was an action-packed time.On Thursday, the kids enjoyed time in the pool. It is a little known fact, but we actually have Olympic divers and an Olympic announcer in our family.

We really are home--all of us arrived back at the zoo yesterday. We are super BUSY, so vacation pictures may have to wait. The kids and I had fun, fun, FUN with the cousins, aunts, uncles and GeGe. Robby had as good of time as you can at a conference, but made up for it by placing 3rd overall at a cook off on Saturday.Details about the fun adventures to come, eventually!

Remember Sadie's cabbage plant she brought home from school last spring? Well, today we picked her cabbage.It weighed in at 3 lb. 4 oz. It's a pretty nice cabbage. It probably could have gotten much larger, but we were afraid it might split. She has certainly enjoyed watching it grow.
