A Day at our House...

The day started like any other. C.W. arrived to play and T.S. took some pictures.

The boys were outside playing and the next thing I know, C.W. is crying. It seems that T.S. hit a golf ball and it landed right on C.W.'s cheek bone. According to T.S., "He was in my way."
C.W.'s version: "Well, T.S. hit me with a golf ball."

We called City Hall and Scott had Jerry meet us at the fire station to look at it. Jerry decided that since there was some blood in the white part of the eye, someone should look at it.
In the mean time, Aunt Judy noticed our car at the station, so she came over from the bank to check on things. Not long after that, Robby drove by with a busload of kids...cell phone rang within seconds. Before the whole thing was over, several people stopped to see what was happening.
Jay took C.W. to the eye doctor and all is well. C.W. made it back in time to go to Sadie's musical.
This is a shot of C.W. holding the ice pack on. He didn't keep it on long because, "It's cold!"

An Experiment

The boys and I began a "science experiment" yesterday. We colored pictures of the stages a bean seed goes through, then glued them in order onto some paper. Finally, we put some actual bean seeds into a small Ziploc bag with a damp paper towel. They are hanging in the kitchen. We are going to observe them and see if the bean follows all of the steps we talked about.

We also planted some bean seeds in a cup. We put them in Ziploc bags to make our own green house and eliminate the need to keep watering the soil while we wait for the seeds to come up.
The boys are very excited about observing the seeds.

Fun in the Water

Tryce brought his rain boots today, so I let the boys have some fun in the puddles. When they were finished, I think we poured out several inches of water from their boots.

Playing and Waiting

What do you do while you are waiting to see if you need to take cover during a storm? Why, play Play-doh candy shop, of course.
I took this--and, yes, Sadie really does have a top to her head.

T.S. took this one--much better composition than his mother.
We had storms in our area last night. We managed to get by with small hail and lots of rain. South of us, near Tulia, they had some tornadoes, LOTS of hail and lots of rain. The Interstate is still closed this morning south of Tulia because of water over the road. They had to get the graders and snow plows out in Tulia to clear the hail from the roads.

The Day After

I think these boys are up to something:

The boys were thrilled to get to do a little target practice with all of those dyed eggs. They were very intrigued with the inside of the egg--amazed that it was white and that there was a yellow ball in the middle. They thought they were very sneaky trying to bring the yellow part into the house. I caught them and convinced them that Petunia would love it.
Talley certainly enjoyed the egg-throwing event.

Hunting Eggs

There's a story behind T.S.'s bucket. We couldn't find his bucket on Saturday morning. I told him he could use Sadie's other one. (She was choosing to use the basket from Sissy's wedding.) T.S. didn't want to use it because it was pink and had beads on it. I went on to town to set up the community egg hunt. T.S. arrived with our bead bucket (formerly a play-doh container). He didn't seem to mind it.

Dyeing Eggs

Every year, the cousins get together and dye Easter eggs. This event has become a very big deal to the kids (and parents and grandparents). It ranks right up there with Christmas. The Fourth of July is a HUGE deal, too, but that's another story. This year, we didn't have quite as many cousins as usual, but that didn't slow us down. We had a ball dyeing eggs to the sound of rain on Shipo's barn roof.
(Sorry the pictures are so dark-- I think my camera has seen better days and has been dropped one too many times.)

Easter Cupcakes

The boys love to bake. We made cupcakes today and decorated them to look like Easter baskets. Let me just say that I wish I would have videoed it. At one point there were more sprinkles on the table and floor than cupcakes (but that sweeps up).
I didn't have the heart to stop C.W. from "double-dipping" his decorations in his cupcakes.
It was very fun and we were all pleased with the finished products.

Goo!!

Too windy to play outside, so we made goo today. You can go here for the recipe. (I dare you to try it!)

Crafty Boys

Tryce has been "bugging" me to let them make bugs out of egg cartons. Today they painted their parts of the carton. T.S. insisted on gloves.
Then they added pom poms with the help of glue dots (I wish I would've invented those).

T.S. decided they needed to add a balloon to a few. (Duct tape worked well for that.)
Then, the bug chasing began.

Spring Break: Day 2, Part 2

We made it back to Magnolia and took the kids for the ice cream we promised them. None of them (including my sister and me) finished it. Maybe there wasn't that big of a need for ice cream after all.
After we got home, Josie took us on an adventure along the creek behind their house. My kids loved this because there were trees and water--something they aren't used to.
Cody fried his famous fish for supper--yum. BOTH of my kids ate it. We finished the day tired and very full.

Spring Break: Day 2

On Tuesday of spring break, we had big plans: tour the Blue Bell Creamery and take pictures in the bluebonnets. We drove to Brenham, had lunch, then headed to the Creamery. The line snaked out the door and down a sidewalk. They had even erected portable shades for the people in line--not a good sign. Since my sister and I are so very smart, we decided to ask some questions before unloading the kids. We found out that even if we got in line, we might not get a tour.

So, we took the kids to the picnic area at Washington on the Brazos (the birthplace of Texas) and played for a while. We didn't attempt the historic part of it (we know our limits), but did point out the Brazos River--chocolate milk according to T.S.

After surviving the gravel-throwing-unattended kids at the playground, we set off to take pictures in the bluebonnets. Sadie was promptly bitten by fire ants.

(Part 2 of Day 2 to follow--it ended up being quite an adventure-filled day)
