An Experiment

The boys and I began a "science experiment" yesterday. We colored pictures of the stages a bean seed goes through, then glued them in order onto some paper. Finally, we put some actual bean seeds into a small Ziploc bag with a damp paper towel. They are hanging in the kitchen. We are going to observe them and see if the bean follows all of the steps we talked about.

We also planted some bean seeds in a cup. We put them in Ziploc bags to make our own green house and eliminate the need to keep watering the soil while we wait for the seeds to come up.
The boys are very excited about observing the seeds.

Crafty Boys

Tryce has been "bugging" me to let them make bugs out of egg cartons. Today they painted their parts of the carton. T.S. insisted on gloves.
Then they added pom poms with the help of glue dots (I wish I would've invented those).

T.S. decided they needed to add a balloon to a few. (Duct tape worked well for that.)
Then, the bug chasing began.

Fun at the Stock Show

The kids got a kick out of these photo ops at the Animal Adventure Barn. They liked the animals, too. Farm Bureau sponsored the barn and it featured mother and baby pairs of goats, lambs, cows and chickens and chicks. They also had a "barn" that had a display of the different types of animal feed. We even had a brief shootout there. (I know, amazingly we weren't asked to leave.)

T.S. enjoyed his visit to the horse exhibit. He obviously paid attention at the rodeo in Fort Worth. Finally,The HUGE chicken cracked us up. I wish I'd have had the nerve to put the kids on it for a picture...maybe next year.

Baking a Cake

T.S. and I made a cake yesterday. The recipe for my great-grandmother's buttermilk cake can be found here. T.S. loved the whole cake-making process. The pictures speak for themselves.
Sadie was very appreciative of her brother's efforts.

Spelling...and some changes

Please bear with me as I once again change my blog. I thought I had it exactly like I wanted it, then I tried to add some "widgets" or whatever those things are called and they didn't fit. I realized that in my attempt to be a little different and not change to "minima" before adding a background, I was limiting my widget capability. I'm working on getting font and colors that are easy to read with the dark background. I realize looking at older posts that T.S.'s blue conversation color may have to change, so bear with me--please feel free to leave nice suggestions.

So, the spelling part. Studying for spelling at our house is a chore. So I found this web site. There is also a widget on the sidebar. I figure it is worth a shot. The plan is to put the words in on Monday and Sadie will want to study them all week (by playing games). We'll let you know how it works. Let us know if this site works for you or is helpful.
I took the widget off of the sidebar--Sadie isn't too interested in this--we'll see if she is as her list gets harder.
