San Antonio Zoo

Yes, I'm still behind. It is the new story of my life.

Our favorite thing at the zoo was feeding nectar to the Lory birds. It was the best $2 we spent on the whole trip. At first, T.S. was not a bit interested. Then, he decided to give it a try. He was okay with it until the bird started traveling up Sadie's arm, which made his bird a little antsy. Then, he was done. The funniest thing was a bird pooped on Sadie's head--after we left the bird enclosure.

Spring break pics to come--they are still stuck in my camera. We had a ball in Magnolia with the Spivey family. Jen and I even pitched a tent all by ourselves.

Another Addition

Meet Annie:

She's the newest addition to our zoo. She's half border collie and half Australian shepherd. We think she is pretty cute. We are hoping that we can train her to run the show sheep. Robby says I can probably teach her to herd the chickens back into their pen in the evenings, too.

So how did we end up with Annie? On Saturdays, a local AM radio station hosts Tradio--a program where people can call in selling things or seeking things. Robby was plowing and heard that a man was giving away puppies. We've been talking about getting a dog to run the sheep, so he and the kids wasted no time heading to Amarillo to check out the offer of puppies.
Annie seems to be settling in well. She isn't taking much off of the cats, likes to have her tummy scratched and seems happy to see us.
We still have Petunia, she is really showing her age (15 years). She's still a great dog.

Hico--Day 2

We visited the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco. The kids had fun viewing all of the different animals. Even though it was HOT, the kids were all troopers. The misters helped cool us off, too.

We ate our picnic lunch at the Mayborn Museum on the Baylor campus. Then we set off exploring and discovering cool things throughout the museum. We were fortunate to view their traveling exhibit: Leonardo daVinci Machines in Motion. It was really cool to see all of the machines he came up with and even cooler to get to see how they worked.

Upstairs in the museum, we explored everything from sound, bubbles and water to animals and insects and pioneers. The kids really enjoyed the rooms where they got to dress up in pioneer clothes and outfits from different cultures. The TV station was a big hit, too. We have several budding reporters and meteorologists.

The kids finished their day by cooling off on the trampoline with water.

New Zoo Members

We'd like to introduce you to the four newest members of our zoo:
Our friend Teagen is in first grade and they hatched their chickens recently. He needed a place for his to stay, so we gladly offered for them to come live at our zoo. Right now we can't tell if they are cocks or pullets (boys or girls). One already has a comb starting, so I'm pretty sure he is a cock.

For those of you who have lost count of our zoo, here's the latest tally: 1 donkey, 2 (year-old)bottle calves, 3 cats (remember when we bottle fed those), 1 dog who is now walking a bit sideways, 2 bantam roosters (free to good home), 6 Leghorn hens, 5 Rhode Island Red hens, 2 Polish bantam chicks, 1 bantam chick of unknown breed, 4 leghorn chicks, 1 rat, 1 gerbil and one cabbage named Freddy.
