Thankful

Thankful for this girl!

Thankful for this little Indian!

We are thankful!  Thankful for our family, our health, our friends, our school...the list goes on and on.  We are so proud of the kids.  Sadie competed in a lamb jackpot a few weekends ago--she walked away with reserve grand champion and champion junior showmanship.  (I even pulled the gooseneck trailer to Happy and back home without incident.)  Sadie competed in UIL last week.  She worked very hard on all of her events.  She was on the second place Art Smart team, 1st place calculator team, and 2nd place listening skills team.  As an individual, she was 2nd in calculator and 4th in listening.

T.S. was very brave and participated in UIL storytelling.  Although he didn't place, we were proud of his effort and commitment.  As you can see, he was an Indian at the annual Thanksgiving feast at school.  Notice "SWAT" on the back of his vest--we are thankful for his creativity.

Take time to count your blessings.  Happy Thanksgiving from the Bows!

Football and the Fair

T.S. had his first flag football game Saturday--he said it was fun.  He does a great job "blocking."  I use the term roughly since no contact is supposedly allowed when you block.  We then spent the day at the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo.  Sadie had a fantastic day.   She showed four lambs and placed in the top 8 with all of them.  Our friends--Alisa, Gracie, Luke and Jake--all had a great day as well.  It was fun to be with our Happy Show Crew.
T.S. is number 5.

Joe placed 1st in his class.

Lucy was 2nd. (She--Lucy, not Sadie--also peed on my foot.)

Houston 2011

Sadie and Nugget

Craig feels Nugget to decide what to feed.

The Coach and the team watch Alisa in the ring.

We had another fun stockshow experience--somehow I didn't do a very good job of documenting it.  Sadie and Nugget didn't do too well, but we were pleased that our cousin Sandy and her neighbor came down to watch.  We enjoyed dinner at Sandy and Jan's that evening--it certainly was a treat after a few days of food on a stick.

We enjoyed a relaxing time at Jennifer's.  The cousins, certainly do have fun together.  We made time in our trip for a few brief stops through Abbott.  Sissy and Albert should think of opening a bed and breakfast.  We were also thrilled to get to travel to Morgan Mill to see Randy and his family.  Once again, the cousins had a ball and we were thrilled to get to see the new Bow home and love on Evan, Meda and Mabry.

Sorry for the lack of pictures after the stockshow--I left the camera in Craig's pickup and no one thought it was worth it to drive back into Houston for it.

San Antonio 2011

Feeding and drenching in Childress.  We got some interesting looks in all of the parking lots we stopped to drench in.

Sadie placed sixth in the Junior Sheep Skillathon.

2011 Happy International Stoskshow

Sadie during showmanship.

Sadie helped her friend Jayden with his goats.

T.S. showed in the PeeWee class for the first time and loved it.

We had a fun day at the stockshow yesterday.  I'm having issues loading vertical pictures, so possibly more to come.  Sadie placed 3rd and 4th with her lambs.  Our sweet friend Alisa showed the grand champion lamb.  T.S. actually participated in the Pee Wee show.  It was a great day watching the kids of our community exhibit their animals and work together.  It's great to live in  a place where, as my friend put it, "generations" have worked to put on a show to benefit our kids.  Can't wait for county this weekend!  (If I can't figure out the picture problem, I'll try to take more horizontal.

The Lambs

This is Stitches. Robby is inspecting the stitches he has on the side of his mouth.

This is Nugget--his full name is Golden Nugget.

Sadie is rubbing on Stitches. You have to tie them up and rub them down a lot; this gets them trained to stand still when the judge comes around (we hope).

Memorial Day weekend, Sadie and Robby went to Uncle Craig's to get the lambs. It has taken me this long to get my act together and properly photograph them.

Last night, Robby removed the rest of Stitches's stitches. Sadie also began training them to walk with the halter. It was an interesting time, but both lambs were doing pretty well when she finished.

The Sale

Here are a few picture of Sadie selling Edward at the sale. It was really cool to see her name and hometown on the big screen.

San Antonio Stockshow 2010

We left last Saturday after Sadie's Little Dribblers game. We fed Edward in Tulia before we left and stopped every couple of hours to feed and drench. These pictures are at a rest stop near Henrietta--notice the snow. It was strange seeing snow on the ground so close to Fort Worth.
We spent Saturday night with Sissy and Albert. Robby met up with the group we haul with on Sunday. They headed on down to get in line to unload Monday morning.
The kids and I enjoyed a day of shopping and playing on Sunday. (Thanks, Sissy and Albert!) We left Monday morning and made a quick detour at the capitol (pics to come).
Sadie didn't show until Wednesday which gave us plenty of time to check out exhibits and be tourists in between feeding every 2-4 hours. (pics to come)
Sadie was in the first class at 8:00 on Wednesday morning. She did an outstanding job showing and placed second. The judge even commented on her showmanship during his comments on the class.
Sadie and Uncle Craig before she heads to the ring. Robby and Sadie head to the holding area.
Robby gives some last-minute tips.

Sadie works to get Edward set up for the judge.

Sadie gets Edward set up for the judge's comments after placing.

We then had to wait ALL day to go back for the medium wool breed drive. The wait was definitely worth it. They announced each showman's name, parents, hometown and preferred college as they entered the ring. (Sadie was undecided--which was a relief to me, there's still hope for A&M!) It was incredible to watch Sadie go out there like she'd been in breed drives her whole life.

Sadie enters the ring with Edward for the breed drive.
After that, she finally got the green dot that signified she was in the sale.

It was an amazing day.

Randall County Stockshow

Finally--here are the pictures from Randall County. Sadie had a pretty good day:
Lambs: Edward (black faced)--2nd, Oscar--4th
Pigs: 4th and 5th (I honestly can't remember which was which).

As you can see, Robby gets a little nervous/anxious when Sadie is in the ring.
See if you can spot him in the picture of her showing the York--white pig.
Robby's parents came up to watch Sadie show. T.S. stayed with GeGe because of his asthma, but had a ball with the Tirey cousins. Sadie made the sale with all of her animals and "sold" Edward (it's a premium sale which means people aren't really buying the animal, they are just donating to the kids' projects). She's planning on taking him to San Antonio. We're not sure which pig gets to travel to Fort Worth yet, we're waiting to see how they look after being on feed a little longer.
